Duct Cleaning Services (HVAC) & Air Quality Control

Cleaning air ducts on ships is vitally important to avoid health problems. The HVAC system and/or exhaust ventilation system on board ships is the ideal breeding ground for dust, microorganisms, particulates, bacteria and pollen. These contaminants enter the indoor climate through the HVAC system ductwork and can pose a serious risk to crew health, causing symptoms such as headaches, apathy, excessive tiredness, irritation of mucous membranes and eyes, and lung and airways diseases. If the HVAC system is not periodically cleaned or properly maintained, even the most advanced system can cause illness. CLIFF uses the high pressure vacuum system to clean the air ducts from ships and platforms. Using compressed air, the pressure is regulated according to the size and type of duct and, of course, the degree of pollution in the duct. Below are some steps for carrying out the service:

• Air sample is collected for analysis;                                                                          • Removing diffusers for cleaning/sanitizing/disinfection;                                • Mechanical cleaning of the interior of ducts using appropriate technique;            • Application of product when necessary to eliminate any contamination;              • Placement of clean/sanitized/disinfected diffusers;                                                  • Cleaning and sanitizing machine water trays and changing pads;                            • Replacing air filters (customer's responsibility);                                                • Management of solid waste from cleaning (to be agreed);                              • Photographic and video report after performing the service.

Tank and Hold Cleaning & Gas free (Water, Oil, Coal, Iron Ore)

On general cargo tramp vessels and container liners ships, the need to optimize time is essential as these vessels have short calls to meet their commercial commitments.

On solid bulk cargo ships the last 3 shipments and next cargo shipments must be considered for an adequate and careful analysis of the holds beside the follow up of the berthing and unberthing prospects, which can be extremely short, therefore it requires agility and efficiency in the cleaning process.

For Oil tanker vessels washing between loading of different grades of cargo (not compatible) is the most common reason for tank cleaning despite many others reasons may arise during a port call of a ship.

Various safety precautions are to be considered before, during and after a tank or hold cleaning as it may contain cargo residues and/or flammable gases therefore Gas free is required.
